PRP Therapy is an innovative approach that harnesses your body’s innate healing ability to promote hair growth and rejuvenation.

What is Platelet-Rich-Plasma (PRP)?

Platelet-Rich-Plasma (PRP) is a non-surgical hair loss treatment that utilizes the blood of the client for improving healthy hair. In PRP, we collect a small amount of blood from the scalp of the client and process it to isolate platelets and growth factors. We then inject this back to the scalp to promote hair growth. PRP therapy is an effective option for various types of hair loss, including androgenic alopecia (pattern baldness) and certain cases of alopecia areata.

At MAXIM Philippines, we only work with doctors who are adept at specialized hair restoration procedures such as PRP. To see if you are suitable for this procedure, you can schedule a consultation with our medical professionals here.

How does a Platelet-Rich-Plasma (PRP) procedure work?

Preparation

To ensure a successful Platelet-Rich-Plasma (PRP), preparation should take place prior to the actual procedure. While we will give you a more comprehensive preoperative guide, here are some preparatory examples you would need to take:

  • Listing all medications, allergies, vitamins, health conditions, and prior procedures or surgeries;
  • Abstaining from alcohol a few days before the procedure;
  • Drinking plenty of water on the day of the treatment;
  • Cutting your hair according to instructions;
  • Washing your hair only with gentle shampoo before the procedure; and
  • Avoiding the use of conditioners, oils, or styling products after using shampoo.

Procedure

While most procedures begin with administering anesthesia, the Platelet-Rich-Plasma (PRP) therapy is a minimally invasive procedure that does not require anesthesia. If necessary, however, we can apply a topical anesthetic to ensure that your experience is comfortable and pain-free.

Once this has been settled, we proceed by extracting a small amount of blood from the patient’s scalp. We then perform a technique that involves isolating the platelets to ensure that we are able to harness the growth factors. These growth factors are then injected back into the scalp in order to stimulate dormant hair follicles, promote blood circulation to the hair follicles, and encourage the growth of new, healthy hair.

Overall, each PRP session ranges from 30 to 60 minutes, depending on the specific treatment plan and individual needs. PRP, however, does not yield permanent results and regular maintenance sessions may be necessary to sustain the results over time. As such, it is best to have a series of PRP sessions spaced weeks apart in which individual factors will also determine the exact number of sessions and intervals needed.
