Scalp Micropigmentation (SMP), also known as a Cosmetic Hairline Tattoo, is a non-surgical cosmetic procedure that uses medical grade pigment to mimic the appearance of a closely shaved head.
What is a Scalp Micropigmentation (SMP)?
Scalp Micropigmentation (SMP) is an aesthetic procedure for concealing hair loss by using medical grade pigments and microneedles. Because of its ability to create the look of real hair, this is typically used for cosmetic procedures; hence, this is also often referred to as a Cosmetic Hairline Tattoo. SMP can also be used for non-cosmetic purposes such as the concealment of scars from accidents of previous transplants or even a linear scar from a past FUT Transplant. To manage expectations, interested patients will need to schedule an initial appointment to discuss with our experts on what they want to achieve with the SMP procedure.
How does a Scalp Micropigmentation (SMP) procedure work?
Preparation
Preparing for a Scalp Micropigmentation (SMP) begins before the actual procedures. While we will give you a more comprehensive guide, examples of what you should avoid days leading up to each appointment include:
- Blood thinners if advised by your doctor,
- Alcohol, and
- Certain supplements.
Clients worried about discomfort during the procedure can also opt to purchase anesthetic creams recommended by our doctors. These can be purchased from a reputable source upon request and the client should administer this before arriving at the clinic.
Procedure
SMP begins when our top-caliber SMP specialists administer a local anesthesia in your scalp to manage the pain. As most clients don’t feel more than a light bit of pressure, you can easily do other light activities during the procedure such as reading a book, watching a movie, listening to music, or even taking a nap.
From here, our experienced SMP specialists use natural medical-grade pigments and deposit these pigments into the scalp using microneedles, thereby creating the appearance of natural hair follicles. Through the SMP procedure, our clients can easily achieve a buzz cut look.
A full SMP procedure is typically done in 2 or 3 separate sessions with a 14-day interval between each session. As such, the period spreads over approximately 4 to 6 weeks. Each session then lasts approximately 2 to 4 hours, depending on the size or area being treated. In fact, smaller areas such as simply filling in a hairline or scar may take as little as just 1 hour.
Pricing
At MAXIM Philippines, our SMP pricing is reasonable and competitive. The packages that we offer will be based on the size and area of your scalp that will be needing the SMP. Please contact us for a consultation for a transparent quotation.
